The trip.....

Its been awhile since I posted....

Corky and I are on a holiday this week in a way...We drove to Chicago so I could attend a class.

Started out not knowing if we would even get to make the drive due to ice and snow Saturday nite big time...We took off around noon Sunday...a good share of the way it was just wet, about 100 miles out of Chicago it got nasty.. I was SO glad go get here and be done w/ that drive!

Class is going well, Corky is really enjoying the extra 'mom time'...he's been a nut all week, binkyin around like a mad man!!! I can only imagine what the maids think when they come into clean and they see his play area set up, complete w/ litter box...lol!

The hotel has nightly "cocktails"...so I've been enjoying margaritas nitely!

It sounds as if the drive back may be as much fun as more nasty storms are predicted for home...and to top it off, I think I'm getting sick...uggg! :(

Hopefully this weekends show will still happen, last weekends was cancelled due to weather... :( :( :( :(

Well, dinner just arrived....

Last weekend...

Wow what a LONG weekend that turned out to be...we got the new flooring down in the living room, I had spent most of the evenings thru the week painting...I have to say, it looks GREAT!!

We still have to paint the new trim and get it up (it will be darker than the walls)....not sure yet when that will happen..lol We are also building a shelving unit that will be 8ft long and about 3ft high instead of putting back this gross wrought iron thing that was along the stairs...with that much shelving, looks like I'll need more bunny statues!

I also ordered my area rug last nite....I'll get an updated pic when its done!

Anyway.... here's a pic of everything so far!

And so it begins....

UGGGG...the painting/remodeling has begun...we went last nite and picked out paint...and started on it tonite..its WAY easier not having to worry about trim and carpet tho!!! Saves lots of time! :)

Anyway, I tried to find the color online to share, no go... :(

The best way to describe it...and NO this was NOT planned...its actually about the same color as Corky w/o the black ticking....yes, wrong I know... but it had to have been a subconcious thing!!!

Off to bed, this painting/remodeling stuff is alot of work! It s/ SO be worth it when we are done!

YEAH!!!!

Well, today was a BUSY day...one of my fellow bunny breeder friends was bringing over a gorgeous buck she has for a "date" w/ my girl Luna. He is young and was more interested in eating hay..LOL...Silver Nugget is going to stay here w/ us for a few days to see if we can get the deed done!

Well, there was mass cleaning that needed done before ANYONE could even think of stepping foot in this house!! As I was cleaning I got to thinking just how gross this carpet is that was here when we moved in. We are getting a nice tax return this year (thanks to the bunny business!) so I asked R what he thought about putting hardwood floors in the l/r (Or the fake stuff, don't care either way) he thought that sounded like a good idea...I was figuring it was going to be HORRIBLY expensive...turns out we can do the l/r for about 500 bucks and for about another 150 do my sons room too!! W00h000, this gross carpet is OUT of here hopefully in the next couple of weeks....we will be painting the l/r as well...lots to be done but it will be so worth it! I think we are just goint to install the flooring ourselves, will keep the cost down alot! If all goes well, we may even think about doing the kitchen, time will tell!!

Anyway....I'm outta here...time to take Luna to see Nugget...hopefully he's had enuff hay! ;)

My Big Scare.....

Wednesday nite I was holding Corky and felt something right behind his ribs on the same side he had his surgeries on when he was younger. (full story on that is here: http://www.corkyscave.net/Corky's%20Story.htm ) Anyway...I couldn't figure out what it was and was getting upset about it, thinking maybe he'd developed a tumor or something....he is like my 2nd child, we've been thru so much together...he helps me when my depression is bad, he's the only one that can...and alot of times seems to know I'm headed for a bout w/ that before I do!

Anyway, Thursday morning arrives and I didn't sleep much due to worrying about him...so I call the vet....he's out of town til the 14th... I just love this vet and trust him w/ anything after all he helped me get Corky thru...He sold his practice a couple months ago, he's still working there but taking more time off... :( :( Knowing he wasn't in upset me all the more...

So I called another breeder friend (well, she's gotten out of it for the most part) as I knew she had a vet she really liked. So I got the info and called them...there are 2 vets in this one practice that work on rabbits, (thats unheard of!)...I talked to one of the dr's on the phone and she said its most likely nothing, but to bring him in, she agreed that its better to know for sure than to worry! I was so upset all morning I kept crying (I HATE when I do that at work!) So I got an appt set and told my boss I needed 1/2 day off....if it was something bad, then I would be in no shape to come back.

Get to the vets office and she starts feeling, feels what I mean and she said I think its his liver....I told her I had thought thats the area I was in based off the anatomy diagrams I have. She agreed it was a lil odd that I was feeling it like that...we talked about an x-ray, she said knowing how you feel about him, I would like to do it, if we miss something and something happens, I'll feel awful...we wanted to make sure it wasn't enlarged or that we found a mass on it.

As we were on our way back to x-ray him (yeah, another vet that lets me help in his care!!) the other vet that knows rabbits felt it too...agreed w/ the x-ray thing...Corky is such a lil trooper, he did so good w/ the x-ray and all the poking and prodding, she even commented on how good he was....told her vets and poking and prodding were a way of life for him for a good couple months...wasn't much of a deal to him!

So she comes back in w/ his x-ray, puts it up and says, I can find nothing at all wrong. I was like YEAH, and of course gave my boy some snuggles and kisses....she pointed everything out on the x-ray (man that was COOL)...We talked alot about what I've gone thru w/ some of the others in my herd and how I helped treat them...she was shocked...and she said very impressed..LOL...I guess most people expect the vet to do all the work..I told her NOPE, show me how and I'll take it from there!

So everything is A-OK with my lil man...after that appt I was able to breathe again...I know some people think it odd to be that attached to a rabbit...well those same people most likely think you put them in a cage and just look at them...like a dog or anything else, you show them love/attn/affection and you get it all back 10-fold. In reality...how is it any different then their dog or cat that they love so much?!?!?

In the process of this scare/relief...I found a WONDERFUL backup vet for when mine is out of town...I really like these folks as well...and the gal also told me she will do whatever it takes as far as the owner wants to take it to try and make an animal better (like I did w/ Corky before)...

So its all good here (other than REALLY cold) and my world is turning again!
